Gulf of Maine Facts
- The water surface of the Gulf of Maine measures 79,000 square kilometres / 33,054 square miles.
- The total land area of the Gulf of Maine watershed is 69,115 square miles / 165,185 square kilometres.
- Three US states and three Canadian provinces share the Gulf's watershed. Only the province of Quebec does not have Gulf of Maine shoreline; and only Maine is entirely within the watershed.
- Endangered right whales, of which only 300 are thought to remain in the Atlantic, feed and breed in Bay of Fundy waters around Grand Manan Island from July to October each year.
