Van Dusen, Katrina. The Gulf of Maine:
Sustaining Our Common Heritage Executive Summary. November 1989.
This resource is the executive summary from a conference that took
place entitled The Gulf of Maine: Sustaining Our Common Heritage. This
summary lists the warning signs of degradation in the Gulf, such as the
relatively undeveloped embayments and unnatural concentrations of toxins
in the sediments in the deep basins. Also included in this summary are the
effects of environmental stresses, including the appearance of liver
lesions and fin rot in some fish and shellfish, health advisories, and the
decline in the right whale, piping plover and other species. Lastly this
resource also discusses the effects on coastal economies from
environmental stress.
