Restoration of Coastal Habitats and
Species in the Gulf of Maine. Christopher D. Cornelisen. August 1998.
This report, in conjunction with a
database, is intended to increase the effectiveness of coastal habitat and
species restoration through increased coordination and information
exchange. This project began in 1996 as a result of one of the Gulf of
Maine Council's goals to "identify, protect and restore the Gulf's
terrestrial, coastal and marine habitats." This report highlights key
findings on the seven topic areas researched. These topics are tidal
marshes, freshwater impoundments, tidal flats, sea grass, dunes, seabirds
and anadromous fish. Within each topic area, the report identifies current
and past projects, potential and future projects, looks at evaluation and
monitoring in these areas, as well as evaluates the restoration
effectiveness and gives recommendations. This report also contains a
contact directory of those involved in the restoration of coastal habitats
and species.
