Land-Based Sources of Pollution: An Inventory of the Gulf of Maine.
Maine State Planning Office, Maine Coastal Program. May 1995. 42 pp.
This report was prepared as part of one of the Gulf of Maine Council's
projects to develop an inventory of land-based sources of pollution. From
such an inventory, resource managers can receive information on the
location, timing and magnitude of point source discharges, which will
allow the managers to act in a manner that will promote programs which
will have the greatest impact on pollution problems. This report contains
background information on the Gulf of Maine region, including its geology
and ecology, values of the Gulf, environmental stresses, and regional
initiatives, specifically the Gulf of Maine Program. The latter half of
this resource contains the point source inventory and the nonpoint source
inventory. This report also contains information on how other regions have
used land-based pollution source inventories to influence their marine
environments.
