Toxic Contaminants in the Gulf of Maine. 15 pp.
This report summarizes the results of the National Status and Trends
Program from the Gulf of Maine region. Its purpose is to provide
information to local and state resource managers to aid them in evaluating
toxic contaminants in their region. This resource begins by offering
information onf the characteristics of the Gulf of Maine and the
activities in the Gulf. The paper then provides the results to date on
both metals and organics, which are accompanied by graphs depicting the
concentrations of these substances in the sediments, mussel tissues and
fish livers. The report lists conclusions from this data, providing a
discussion on pollution sources and natural variability.
