1987/1989 Progress Report. November 1989. 32 pp.
This report contains information on initiatives, issues and activities
that have effected the health of Canada's oceans during the period between
1987 and 1989. The first section addresses policy and planning measures
that have been made and implemented which have been relevant to
conservation and protection of the oceans. The second section focuses on
national issues, such as oil spills, contaminants in shellfish, fish and
wildlife, aquaculture, ocean dumping, and marine pollution and human
health. The next section is on national initiatives, including monitoring,
marine water quality guidelines, marine management programs and plans,
research and development and communications. The final section focuses on
international activities, such as the Valdez oil spill, SEAPOL, Arctic
land based pollution and marine wildlife. Also included in this report are
the next steps to be taken by Canada's Marine Environmental Quality
advisory group.
