Welcome to the Gulf of Maine Environmental Information Exchange (GOMINFOEX) listserver. This moderated email discussion forum is hosted by the Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment. GOMINFOEX is open to anyone who wants to participate. Please read this entire message for instructions on how to subscribe or unsubscribe from the list and save this message for future reference.

What is The Gulf of Maine Environmental Information Exchange (GOMINFOEX) ?
It is a cooperative effort of federal, state and provincial governments, environmental non-governmental institutes and agencies, university researchers, K-12 educators and commercial interests to promote and help find, access and make use of environmental information in the Gulf of Maine. GOMINFOEX is open to anyone who wants to participate. An Action Committee meets regularly to exchange ideas and to foster cooperation amongst the many different initiatives within the region.
Why do we need this listserv?
Computer and internet technology allows for distributed communication and work networks. But in many cases, people find it difficult to find and make use of the numerous information resources that presently exist for the Region. Interested people outside of many organizational structures find it difficult to identify, understand and make best use of existing information. There is not equal access to much "public" information. GOMINFOEX provides a network of people who are working together to use communication and information technologies to enhance the value of information. The purpose of the GOMINFOEX list serv is to enable subscribers to receive, share and discuss exchange of environmental information exchange. This list serv will be used to maintain communication with the distributed network of interested people on organisational issues concerning meeting planning and reporting, the development of organisational structure, etc..
