| The Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment Action Plan 2007–2012 describes the goals and outcomes that the Council will pursue through its committees and partnerships in this five-year period. The Action Plan was developed by incorporating public input and the findings of numerous studies, workshops, and key policy developments, including the Gulf of Maine Summit, Canada’s Oceans Action Plan, and the U.S. Ocean Action Plan.
The Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment Action Plan 2007–2012 focuses on three bold and ambitious goals identified by the people living and working around the Gulf of Maine. Goal 1: Protect and restore habitats Goal 2: Foster environmental and human health Goal 3: Support vibrant communities The Council is committed to these long-term goals, recognizing that it will take many years to fully realize them. |

The Council has an 18-month work plan for January 2007 to July 2008 with 36 activities toward the outcomes and goals of the Action Plan. The Council is working in partnership with other organizations to secure resources and complete the activities.

The Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment Action Plan 2007–2012 builds on results of the Council’s previous five-year action plan (2001–2006) and two earlier action plans in the 1990s.
